CREATING IMMORTALITY

"I've put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant, and that's the only way of insuring one's immortality."

- James Joyce

In many philosophical and religious traditions, immortality is specifically conceived as the continued existence of an immaterial soul or mind beyond the physical death of the body. the belief in immortality has been widespread through history is no proof of its truth. It may be a superstition that arose from dreams or other natural experiences. Thus, the question of its validity has been raised philosophically from the earliest times that people began to engage in intelligent reflection.

The idea of continued existence even after death is a notion that can be met. The means is through creation, that is bringing something to existence. I imagine a lot these days but then I realized, the idea is to to just wish for, but to put it to work. Immortality can be reconstructed as not always  living forever. The idea is to keep living through creating something. A lot of us were born in the 20th and 21st century but yet we know before centuries before us because of something they created. Something meaning they brought to life.

We have people like Thomas Edison who developed the electric power generator, Graham Bell as the first practical telephone inventor, Stephanie Kwolek who discovered the first of a family synthetic fibers, the world’s first and only bath-substituting antibacterial and biodegradable skin gel, Ludwick Marishane and others. We all know these people as a result of something they created.

When a person fails to do something worth remembering, it can be in the family, friends or community, he\she is forgotten easily. But to be in existence of an immaterial soul or mind beyond the physical death of the body, one has to cre
ate something that will live and never die. That is one way of ensuring one's immortality.
